“Right,” Where I Am

Strange; this life can feel so strange. We are born into an environment that seems to compel us to reach and continue to reach. As children, we learn the rules early: Kindergarten is meant to lead to Grade 1, Grade 2, and so on. We are explicitly and implicitly taught that we should strive, become more, and make something of ourselves; and with that goal firmly established, we often unwittingly sacrifice a greater gift to the false gods of materialism, success, and wealth. The price of our innocent ignorance can be very steep.

Several years ago, the content of this article would have seemed nonsensical–it would have been impossible for me to understand. The idea of being “right,” (meaning, satisfied, content, or at peace) where I am would have been paramount to capitulation. Without a figurative mountain to climb or a vision to fulfill, I would have felt lost. Logic would have decreed that without purpose there would be no sense in living. At that time, my understanding of Be-ing was nebulous; for the nectar of life seemed to be in the dreaming, doing, and achieving. My misguided approach toward life seemed to offer only two paths, labelled Success and Failure; and who of us desires to tread the latter? I spent a lifetime trying to succeed, and in the process discovered that I had missed Be-ing Present.

Now (when I become still), I realize that everything is, was, and always will be “right.” Freed from the machinations of the mind, I realize that I don’t need to go anywhere, or attempt to be other than “I Am.” Here and now, I also know that I’m not alone. The One is with me; in fact, “is” me. One: pervading everything, everyone, everywhere. One: beyond space-time, eternal. One: within family, friends, and permeating so-called foes. One: in every rock, tree, and butterfly. One: the All in All, including me; how beautiful to know.

What does it mean to be “right” where I Am? It means that I’m fine with, and fine without. It means accepting that which is, and that which is not. It means living peacefully, without needing to change anything. It means creating joyfully, from the detached perspective of wisdom. It means resting easy and being grateful to the Creator; for I know that “right,” where I am; so, too, is God. Dare to Dream (and care for one another).
